Many of the world's greatest inventions were the result of a hunch or mistake or a complete accident. The Toy will never fall in the category of a world class invention . Lets face it, boats have been around for a while. But the more I read online and the more I look at this project, I'm coming to the conclusion that I am not building just one boat. If I do this right what I am going to end up with is two banana boats, set up to fasten seats and mast to with a place to fasten out riggers that just happen to be able to join together with a deck that can be either 4 or 8 feet wide. It is to soon to say how many people can sit on the " banana boat" mode but that is where my mind is on this, at least for now..
This week the little time I have had to work on boat has been spent on working the wood. The deck is 3/8 " CDX ply that has has Thompspns water seal with the mildew additive applied. I want to go back over the edges though. I see voids tht I do not like so Im going to fill those in and re apply the water seal. Plus I'm thinking I want to add another coat just to be sure. The large sections of the top plate for the first hull are ready to cut the holes in to be fitted over the two inch pipe. I'm using 3 coats of exterior poly eurathane there even though they wil be covered with the roofing coat just to be on the safe side and give it extra protection in case the rubber gets a hole in it. Have the main 8 ft transom cut out and the 4 foot transons and mid sections for hull plate ready to cut .
When I bought the " tree stakes" I bought 9 of them thinking the extras would maybe make mast for the guys PD Racers. I'm thinking I am gong to keep them for this, They are not completely square as far as they have minor warps in them so that's not really suitable for a mast. They will fit perfectly for booms on this junq rig sail I got since it is 6 feet wide. . They will also make great out riggers for banana boat mode.
This blog started as building a small sailing catamaran in a landlocked area from local materials. It still is. Providence provided a V22. You don't say no to that. I'm working on getting the V22 in the water.I'm still doing The Toy. May shorten it for a dingy. It's about getting on the water, having some fun, learning A LOT I never knew I wanted to know, not winning prizes or being stubborn. see http://thetoydiybyagirl.blogspot.com/2012/07/07092012-changing-description-at-head.html
